Add loopcut to a single face

To add a loop cut to a single quad face connected to other quad faces, select the faces adjacent to your desired face in the direction of the loop cut (for example, left and right for a horizontal cut), then hide them (H or Mesh > Show/Hide > Hide Selected). Add a loop cut on the target face (CTRL + R), right-click to cancel positioning and snap it to the middle (Right Click), then unhide the hidden faces (ALT + H or Mesh > Show/Hide > Show Hidden). Beware of the n-gons.
